Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Certificates were earlier used only in the credit cards since a secure and non-vulnerable connection was needed to ensure the security of the user’s personal details.

Then it was included in the web browsers as well when the cyber-crimes became prevalent and a solid protection of security for the websites as well the individual users was needed more than ever.

As we all know that most of the websites today are Hypertext Transfer Protocol Layer (HTTP) format but by adding a SSL Certificate you can convert it to the Hypertext Transfer Protocol Layer Secure (HTTPS) which will also be shown in your website URL, letting the users know that your web server has SSL Certificate installed.

The benefits of the installing the certificate is manifold and even though it is an essential element that you should add to your web server as the business who have a strong foothold in the virtual internet market, it is undeniable that you need to know everything about it before you can make that decision for yourself.

SSL Certificate is basically a security layer that ensures all the connection that has been made with your website is encrypted and secure, be it a conversational or transactional.

If your server is secured, users will have an easy time trusting you with their personal data since the certificate ensures an encrypted transfer of it which cannot be seen or altered by any third party.

This is the reason a website whose URL starts with HTTPS:// is given immediate priority in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as well as Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) because Google is always prioritizing the security if your personal details unless it is for them who use it for their benefits. But still the HTTPS/SSL update is what we needed to secure ourselves from internet thieves.

Installing the certificate on your website is not only a great way to gain the trust of your visitors and customers, it is also an effective method for gaining a top rank in the search engine results as the two are co related to each other because of the way they reciprocate their effectiveness. And one important thing to remember here is that it is no longer called a SSL, the official name for the certificate is now Transport Layer Security (TLS) but it provides all the same features and uses all the  same protocols.
